The Katie Jane Rocks non-profit organization is pleased to announce the formation of the Queen Of The Diamond scholarship program. The Queen Of the Diamond program is designed to reward female student athletes who play the sport of softball in the form of a $1,000.00 scholarship should they enroll in a trade school, community college, college or university or join the military after completing high school. The purpose of the Queen Of The Diamond award is to recognize young student athletes who enjoy the game of softball, show good work ethic, positive attitude, and who are good teammates and positive roll models on their teams and in their schools and communities. Nominees should be student athletes that their coach believes have benefited on and off the field through their participation in the game of softball and whom would continue to benefit on and off the field through participating in organized sports. To be eligible for the program all nominees must be submitted by their coach each year between June 15 and July 3. One winner will be selected each year. Nominated student athletes must be playing 10U or 12U softball in the U.S.A. at the time of their nomination, and they must have played at least 1-season of 10U or 12U softball in the previous year. Coaches can submit nominations via email at Give@KatieJaneRocks.org. Each nomination must be 500 words or less, include the players full name, date of birth, name and location of the team they are on, coaches name, coaches phone and email address, and a written overview of why the coach feels that player will benefit from being selected as the Katie Jane Rocks Queen Of The Diamond award recipient for that year. One winner will be selected each year by the Katie Jane Rocks organization and the winners coach will be notified via phone and email before August 1 of that year. Winners will need to complete the following terms in order to receive their scholarship award at the end of their high school term.
1. Play organized youth softball (or another sport of choice) at least one season each year after being awarded the Queen Of The Diamond through the end of high school. This can be at any level, including recreational softball, travel softball, or school softball (or another sport). If an award recipient player is injured or ill and can not complete this portion of the eligibility rules they are still considered to be in good standing.
2. Complete their high school education.
3. Enroll in a community college, trade school, college, university or join the military within 6-months after high school graduation.
Award winners who meet the above qualifications can contact the Katie Jane Rocks organization at the time near or after their high school graduation so that their financial award can be provided directly to the award winner. The first year of the Queen Of The Diamond award features seven recipients to kick off the program. Six of the 2022 Queen Of The Diamond Award winners played the 2022 softball season 10U and 12U Perdido Youth Sports Organization recreational softball program based out of Pensacola, Florida, and one of the award winners played for the USA Softball 10U MAYSA Lady Mules softball team located in Oakland, Maine. The initial seven players receiving the Queen Of The Diamond award exhibited tremendous growth during the 2022 season and showed positive attitudes and the desire to improve their softball skills while being good teammates. In 2023 the Queen of the Diamond award recipient was Lyllian Babineau, a 12U player for the Lady Bandits travel softball team based out of Oakland and Sydney, Maine.
